How the player character will feel and control
Player Character
Dick Dynamite a cigar chomping Nazi-crushing, panzer eating one man wrecking ball who seems impervious to German bullets makes his way through an axis prison camp, killing and disfiguring any foes that stand in his way in inventive ways. His line of work is killing, and it's a booming industry in 1945.
The player's movement should be swift and fluid so that they can rely on running and shooting. It is possible for the player to:
Function | Keyboard | Mouse | Joystick |
---|---|---|---|
Turn right | right arrow | mouse right | joy right |
Turn left | left arrow | mouse left | joy left |
Move forward | up arrow | mouse up or button 2 | joy up |
Move backward | down arrow | mouse down | joy down |
Strafe left | (Alt + left arrow) or comma¹ | (Alt or button 3) + mouse left | |
Strafe right | (Alt + right arrow) or period¹ | (Alt or button 3) + mouse right | |
Fire weapon | Ctrl | button 1 | button 1 |
Use (open) | space bar | double-click button 2 or double-click button 3 | button 2 |
Strafe | Alt | button 3 | button 3 |
Run | Shift | button 4 | |
Reload | R |
Many gamers (especially right-handed folks and/or players of contemporary games) find the default placement of some keys to be less than ideal while utilising a mouse and keyboard. You can reassign these key functions to different keys using the Setup programme (or an equivalent menu in a source port). One typical configuration, known as WASD (because those are the keys that are assigned to the main directional movement), is utilised in many other, more current shooters:
Function | Default key | WASD key |
---|---|---|
Move forward | up arrow | W |
Move backward | down arrow | S |
Strafe left | comma | A |
Strafe right | period | D |
In order to interact with the level or use items, the player can also do actions. These take a brief animation to finish and are not instantaneous:
Interactable | Actions |
---|---|
Doors | (If unlocked) |
-Open Door |
(If locked) find key to open door | | Objective | -Interact | | Enemy | -kill, death animation |
The player will depend on their kit to survive and explore their environment during a mission. Different tools will help with their movement, health, armour, and ammunition.
The player's health will be shown on the HUD, and enemy hits will reduce it. The player cannot naturally heal while on a quest; instead, health can only be restored by utilising equipment.
